Eso es Memento Mori. Y es probable que sea la práctica estoica más malentendida porque suena a depresión y produce exactamente lo contrario. And it is probably the most misunderstood Stoic practice because it sounds like depression and produces exactly the opposite. The Stoics used it to clarify, to decide, to cut through what carries no real weight. The subject was always time.
"Piensa en ti mismo como muerto. Has vivido tu vida. Ahora toma lo que queda y vívelo apropiadamente." "Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now take what's left and live it properly."
Cuando alguien escucha "recuerda que vas a morir" piensa en dos cosas: en la muerte, o en aprovechar cada momento como si fuera el último. Ambas son la lectura equivocada. When someone hears "remember that you will die" they think of two things: death itself, or seizing every moment as if it were the last. Both are the wrong reading.

The Stoics used it to cut through what takes up space without adding real weight: does this conversation deserve my attention? This decision I've been postponing for three months, what am I waiting for? This anger I've been carrying since Tuesday, does it have any real weight?
